Macbeth Act 1, Scene 4: Macbeth’s Deep and Dark Desires

In this scene we discover the ‘serpent underneath’ Macbeth’s brave exterior

Today’s work is to read this scene and then write a short summary in your class blog.

Then: re-write Macbeth’s final aside in your own words concentrating on his internal psychology.

MACBETH
[Aside] The Prince of Cumberland! that is a step
On which I must fall down, or else o’erleap,
For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires;
Let not light see my black and deep desires:
The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be,
Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see.
